Poured Paintings – Mussel Shells x 2

4 Mar

So, many many pours and this is the result.  I quite like the look – somewhat messy, but you get the idea.  It takes quite a bit of elbow grease to remove the mask  – the cleaned up result is below.  Now I begin the detail paintings this is going to take a while.  These two painting are full sheets- 22″ x 30″ on Arches 300lb Paper.

If you look closely, you can see the shape of the sea urchin emerging among the mussel shells.. This is a tricky technique – all the layering and still keeping the paint transparent!

And the second painting. The edges have curled a bit because of all the water used with this technique. Once completed, my framer will press the painting prior to framing. The curling of the paper causes some unwanted shadows in the photos causing the corners to appear darker

These will be  works-in-progress over the next few weeks or so. I will post details about the mid-point of each painting.

I even like the look of the paintings as they are right now, without detail added. Pretty cool.
